This is notable also in the names of other styles such as JeetKune DO, TangSoodo, Aikido, Judo etc. Each has a common ground which relates to all martial arts. This being that, not only is your chosen art a form of self defence, a sport, keep fit etc, but more so it should be 'a way' of life.
Therefore TaeKwon is of the external and the 'Do' is the internal essence of TKD, the spirit of practising martial art trying to attain the highest state of mind, body and spirit unity.
Start your Journey
All roads have a direction, turns and dead ends. This is a simple metaphor of life as a road we travel along trying to discover more about ourselves in order to make our journey smoother from experiences we discover.
To attain this higher martial state it is necessary for the practitioner to learn through the constant battles between the real self and the elusive self, the right way and the wrong way.
This can be assisted through regular Meditation as an essential aid to enlightenment.
The combination of the physical self harmonising with the mental self will cultivate the practitioners character and their discoveries along the path of life.
Therefore TAEKWONDO is a philosophical activity through which a Taekwondoist can attain the highest level of unity of the mind, body and spirit.
TAEKWONDO when taught in its home land of Korea is taught with ethics that are meant to model people into responsible citizens.
